On 14 January 1995 Valentin Yanus, a cameraman from Pskov TV, was killed in Grozny. According to some sources, he was at that moment at the base of the Pskov paratroops regiment. Other sources report that he was killed by a Chechen sniper while filming from the top of an armoured personnel carrier (APC).
Yanus was among a group of journalists from Pskov, invited to film the paratroopers in action in Chechnya. He himself was born in Grozny in 1940.
