Gelani Charigov, a correspondent with the Marsho private TV company, was wounded on the outskirts of Grozny on 14 December 1994 during a Russian air force attack on the Chechen capital. He subsequently died from his wounds.

His was the first of 18 journalists whose deaths were recorded after federal forces intervened in Chechnya on 5 December 1994.
