Journalist Ludmila Zamana was murdered in her family flat in Samara on 10 February 2000. Her assailant knocked her unconscious and stabbed her in the throat and wounded Zamana's mother when she returned to find her daughter dead.
On 19 February 2001 the Samara Region Court sentenced Zamana's killer to 25 years imprisonment. An acquaintance of her elder sister, he was convicted of committing a further three murders and a number of violent robberies. Since he was suffering from advanced TB and would be unlikely to complete his sentence.
Zamana worked with a number of newspapers in the city, the Samarskaya gazeta as well as Navigator, which was for information and advertising.
