CJES, 51 (2003)
Chechen journalist Khanbosha Terkibayev was killed in a car crash near Grozny on December 16. Terkibayev became famous for his role in the Nord-Ost attack that occurred in Moscow in October 2002. In 1997-1999, Terkibayev worked for Aslan Maskhadov's press service and hosted the program The Heart of the President on Grozny television. In an interview he gave one of the Moscow newspapers at the beginning of this year, Terkibayev made it clear that he was involved in the Nord-Ost attack and even masterminded it. he said he was the only terrorist who managed to leave the building of the Dubrovka theater before the October 26, 2002 storm. Terkibayev said he was the person who led the group of terrorists headed by Barayev to the theater.
However, journalists failed to find convincing proof to what Terkibayev said. Many people in Chechnya believes he was a provocateur who successfully pretended to be a representative of Aslan Maskhadov.
In April 2003, Terkibayev was among the members of the delegation of Chechen parliamentarians who attended the PACE session in Strasbourg.
