Dmitry Krikoryants, Chechnya correspondent for Express Khronika, was murdered on the night of 14-15 April 1993. Unidentified assailants forced their way into his flat in Grozny and after shooting him dead, slit his throat.
When police and security officials arrived they searched Krikoryants’ flat and took away manuscripts, audio cassettes and photo negatives. Journalists in Grozny link the murder to Krikoryants’ work for a foreign TV company, investigating the killing of President Dudayev’s aide in London (the incident with which which Misha Glenny's 2008 book McMafia begins).
The chief editor of the weekly, Alexander Podrabinek, considered that Krikoryants was murdered for political reasons.
