On 18 April 1996 Anatoly Yagodin, a correspondent of the Na boyevom postu magazine (a publication of the Internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs) was killed near the village of Assinovskaya in Chechnya. With soldiers of the Sofrinskaya brigade of internal troops Yagodin rode on a tank into the district where they were ambushed not far from the village by Chechen fighters. Yagodin and an officer of the Sofrinskaya brigade were killed.
Anatoly Yagodin was born in 1961 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. In 1979 he was drafted into the Dzerzhinsky Division and from then on pursued a career with the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. From February 1990 to November 1995 he was a correspondent and editor with Zorky chasovoi (The Watchful Guard), a newspaper for the Moscow District Internal Troops. From November 1995 he headed the forces’ daily life section of Na boyevom postu (On Guard).
