Journalist Alikhan Guliyev was shot and killed in Moscow on July 18. The Moscow law enforcement agencies told Gazeta.ru that Guliyev was connected to television and had worked as a stringer and a freelance reporter. He has made several news reports on Chechnya and authored several analytical programs that were aired on the Ingush television. Before coming to Moscow, Guliyev had worked for the publishing house Kommersant and was known to oppose Ruslan Aushev, former president of Ingushetia.
The investigators have yet to determine whether the murder was politically motivated and are currently exploring several versions of the crime. A criminal investigation has been initiated.
