Valery Zufarov, Itar-TASS photo correspondent, died on 22 April 1996 as a result of exposure to radiation when he was reporting the Chernobyl nuclear power station accident.

His first pictures of the disaster were taken from a helicopter hovering 25 metres above the damaged reactor.
