FATAL TERRORIST ATTACK (May 2010)

Only a week after reporting the murder of Shamil Aliyev, founder and chief manager of the Priboi and Vatan radio stations, and director of the TNT-Makhachkala television network, the Glasnost Defence Foundation has received a report from the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan of the death of Sayid Ibragimov, director of the local TBS television channel. He was killed on his way to restore a TV transmitter, damaged by militants the day before. Near the village of Ayazi his Niva, carrying a team of repairmen, and the accompanying police jeep were ambushed by gunmen who set off a bomb in front of the vehicles and then opened fire. They killed five, among them Ibragimov, and wounded four others.

According to Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the Investigative Committee at the prosecutor's office, five died in the attack and three others, policemen guarding the repairmen, were injured. The police have begun investigations under Articles 105, 317, and 222 of the RF Criminal Code (Homicide; Attempted murder of law enforcement officers; and Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition).
