On 24 December 1995 Yevgeny Molchanov, a cameraman with NTV, died after a head-on collision with another vehicle some 12 km from Grozny on the road to Nazran.
The driver for the NTV team Batyr Tsaloyev was also killed and correspondent Alexei Ivliev and sound engineer Stanislav Platonov received injuries and concussion. They were on their way to Ingushetia to send what they had filmed to Moscow.
