The body of Victor Mikhailov, a correspondent with the Zabaikalsky rabochy newspaper (Chita), was found on 11 May 1996 near the Topol café not far from the railway station in Chita.
There were no documents on Mikhailov’s body and he was only identified the following day by colleagues from his newspaper in the Chita hospital morgue.
The editors of Zabaikalsky rabochy, which is read throughout the Chita Region, told media monitors that Mikhailov wrote articles about crime.
