The editor-in-chief of the independent Voronezh publication Liskinskaya Gazeta has been killed in the Voronezh region, the region’s law enforcement authority told Novosti information agency on December 26. The journalist, Petr Babenko, left the paper’s editorial board in the evening of December 24 “to talk to some important man,” his relatives said. That was the last time he was seen alive. Babenko was found dead in the forest in the Lisok area on December25. He died of multiple stab wounds. The law enforcement agencies have declined comment on the possible motives of this crime.
